Volleyball Suffers Road Defeat at Rider

Kiannisha Santiago recorded a match-high 17 kills to help lead Rider to 3-2 victory (17-25, 25-19, 27-29, 25-21, 15-10) over Canisius in MAAC volleyball action Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium in Lawrenceville, N.J.

The Broncs advanced to 12-13 overall and 10-4 in MAAC with their third-straight victory. With the loss, the Golden Griffins fell to 10-14 overall and 8-6 in conference action.

For Rider, Santiago was aided by Rylah Robinson and Carley McAleavey, who each contributed 11 kills to the winning cause. Makenna Mason dished out a match-high 50 assists and recorded 12 digs.

Canisius was led by freshman Alli Farmer who put down a season-high 13 kills. Redshirt sophomore Julia Lenik was credited with 12 kills and four block assists, while senior Kalia Reisma tallied a team-best seven block assists for the Blue and Gold. Senior Ella Bourque posted a team-high 46 assists and junior libero Brenda Reynaga tallied a match-high 22 digs.

After dropping the first set 25-17, Canisius rebounded to draw the match even with a 25-19 victory in the second set. The Griffs found themselves trailing the third set 19-13 before a 12-6 run allowed Canisius to tie up the frame at 25-25. Tied at 25-25, Canisius ended up winning the third set to take a 2-1 lead in the match thanks to a Rider attack error, followed by a kill from Farmer on set-point to give the Blue and Gold the 27-25 victory.

Rider stormed back to force a fifth set after claiming a 25-21 victory in the fourth set. In the deciding fifth set, the Broncs jumped out to an 8-1 lead en route to a 15-7 win to close out the contest.
 
MATCH NOTES
• Canisius leads the all-time series with Rider 34-18.
• Dating back to 2021, six of the last nine meetings between the Griffs and the Broncs have gone to five sets, including both contests this year.
• Farmer's 13-kill performance on Saturday marks the first time she has recorded double-digit kills this season.
• Saturday marks the 11th time this season where Bourque has recorded 40-or more assists in a match.

• Reisma collected 17 block assists in the two weekend matches at Saint Peter's and Rider. She also recorded a solo block in both matches this weekend.
• Reisma finished the weekend hitting at a .341 attack percentage with 16 kills on 41 attempts in the contests against Saint Peter's and Rider.
 
UP NEXT
Canisius will close out a five-match road trip with contests at Sacred Heart and Fairfield next weekend. The Griffs will start their weekend in Connecticut at Sacred Heart on Nov. 7, with game time set for 7 p.m. That contest will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
