Takacs Matches Career Low With His 67

Canisius junior Mikey Takacs matched a career-low with a 67, highlighted by a pair of eagles in his final three holes of the day, to lead the Canisius golf team in the first round of the Matthews Auto Collegiate Sunday afternoon at The Links at Hiawatha Landing in Apalachin, N.Y.

Takacs, who sits third on the tournament's individual leaderboard after the first 18 holes, shot a 67 in the second round of the Little Three Championship on Sept. 24, and he also fired a 67 in the second round of the Southern Invitational on April 2, 2024. He is the first Golden Griffin golfer to record multiple eagles in the same round since 2003.

Canisius freshman Blake Furtney is tied for 18th in the field after she shot a one-under par 71 on Sunday, while junior Jake Dantonio is tied for 40th after he shot a 75 (+3).

As a team, Canisius shot 289, which places the Blue and Gold in sixth place in the 13-team field. Iona leads the team portion of the 36-hole event with a team score of 275, and Iona's Sahir Balyin leads the individual portion of the tournament after he posted a seven-under par score of 65.

The second and final round of of the Matthews Auto Collegiate is set to tee-off on Monday at 9 a.m.
