Volleyball Takes Down Marist in Four Sets

Sophomore Emma Isroff recorded a match-high 12 kills to go with 10 digs, six block assists and a service ace to help lead Canisius to a 3-1 (27-25, 25-13, 18-25, 25-17) victory over Marist in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference volleyball action Friday evening at the Koessler Athletic Center in Buffalo, N.Y.

The Golden Griffins extended their win streak to five with the victory, improving to 9-11 overall and 7-3 in MAAC play. Marist slipped to 7-15 on the season and 5-5 in conference play with the loss.

Freshman Madi Cowan aided the Griffs' offense with 10 kills. Senior Bella Mosquera turned in a career-high nine blocks, recording eight block assists and one solo. Senior Ella Bourque dished out 34 assists and junior Brenda Reynaga recorded a match-high 20 digs to go along with four service aces.

For the Red Foxes, Ava Lanzetta, Sarah Bumstead and Mallory Reck tallied eight kills apiece for the Marist offense. Caelyn Dumas recorded a team-high 18 assists and libero Cecilia Potter-Pessoa notched 19 digs.

Trailing 24-23 in the first set, a kill by Isroff evened the frame at 24-24. Marist took a brief 25-24 lead moments later, but the Griffs fought back and eventually took the set 27-25 after scoring the final three points, thanks in part to back-to-back attack errors by Marist.

Canisius cruised to a 2-0 lead in the match after the Blue and Gold scored a 25-13 victory in the second set. In that frame, Canisius hit .429 as a team, and the Blue and Gold recorded five service aces, with three of those coming from Reynaga.

After Marist claimed the third set with a 25-18 victory, Canisius held a 14-12 lead in the fourth set until the Golden Griffin offense exploded to score 11 out of the night's final 17 points to close out the match with a 25-17 victory.
