Volleyball Extends Win Streak with Sweep of Saint Peter's

The Canisius volleyball team extended its win streak to four straight with a 3-0 sweep (25-17, 25-17, 25-20) of Saint Peter's in MAAC action Saturday afternoon at the Koessler Athletic Center.
 
The Golden Griffins improved to 8-11 overall and 6-3 in league play with the victory, while the Peacocks fell to 5-15 overall and 0-9 in conference action with their ninth-straight loss.

For the second match in a row, Canisius freshman Madi Cowan led the way for the Blue and Gold, as she recorded 10 kills. Sophomore Emma Isroff added nine kills to the winning effort for Canisius, while senior Bella Mosquera and redshirt-sophomore Julia Lenik chipped in eight kills, apiece. Mosquera also added a service ace, a solo block and a match-high eight blocks assists in the win for Canisius, which closed out the contest with 20 block assists as a team.
 
For Saint Peter's, Karolina Rodriguez had a team-high seven kills to go with four digs and four block assists.

HEAD COACH TOM HANNA POST-MATCH COMMENTS

Canisius hit at a .313 clip as a team while using a 11-3 run midway through the first set to score a 25-17 victory in the opening frame. The Blue and Gold extended its lead in the match to 2-0 with another 25-17 win in the second set.
 
With the score tied at 17-17 midway through set three, Canisius hammered home six-straight points to create some breathing room, with Cowan putting down two kills in the stretch. Leading 24-20, Isroff's kill off an assist from senior setter Ella Bourque sealed the win for the Blue and Gold. Bourque ended the contest with 33 assists to go along with three aces, seven digs and a pair of kills. 
 
MATCH NOTES

• Canisius has won 36 of the last 39 meetings with Saint Peter's and 22 of those 36 victories have come by the final score of 3-0. The Griffs are 43-11 all-time against the Peacocks.

• Saturday's victory was Canisius' 20th straight home win over Saint Peter's. The last time the Peacocks left the Koessler Athletic Center with a victory was in the 2000 season. Canisius is 22-2 against Saint Peter's at home in the all-time series.

• The four-match win streak is the longest for the Griffs this season.
• Canisius has won six MAAC contests for the ninth-straight year.
• Junior Kalia Reisma hit at a .578-clip over two contests this weekend, the most efficient two-match stretch of her career.

• Mosquera's nine total blocks tie her career-high, set at Marist last season.

• Junior libero Brenda Reynaga had 21 digs in the win, her sixth match with 20-plus digs this season.

 

UP NEXT
Canisius continues its four-match homestand on Oct. 24, when the Golden Griffins play host to Marist at the Koessler Athletic Center. Game time is set for 6 p.m., and the contest will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
