Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Falls in Season Opener to Le Moyne

Despite two first half goals and a man advantage for the last 15 minutes of the contest, Canisius suffered a 3-2 setback to Le Moyne in men's collegiate soccer action Thursday at Ted Grant Field in Syracuse, N.Y.

The Golden Griffins fell to 0-1-0 in their early non-conference schedule while the Dolphins opened the season with a 1-0-0 record.

In the game's second minute, the Griffs found themselves at a disadvantage as Guiliano Michitti opened the scoring for Le Moyne.

Canisius was quick to respond as junior Kyle Pollard scored in the 11th minute to level the score. Pollard was able to find the back of the net after passes from senior Ely Sidibe and junior Glodie Mata. Sidibe beat a Le Moyne defender down the sideline and crossed the ball to Mata in the box, who made a deft backheel touch to a wide-open Pollard.

The two teams exchanged goals at the end of the first half. Ryhs Allport restored Le Moyne's lead in the 40th minute, only to see the Griffs respond once again in quick succession. Graduate student Luke Szablewski tied the game in the 41st minute for the Griffs after corralling a pass from junior Mesafint Ellingson and sneaking the ball past the keeper on the far post.

The teams remained tied well into the second half before Brady McNulty put Le Moyne back in the lead in the 64th minute.

In the 75th minute, a Le Moyne player was issued a red card, giving the Griffs a man advantage for the remaining 15 minutes of play. Unfortunately, Canisius was unable to capitalize on the opportunity, allowing the Dolphins to record the one-goal victory.
