Men’s Basketball Adds Evan van der Plas to 2024-25 Roster

Canisius head coach Jim Christian announced today (June 10) that Evan van der Plas has committed to join the Golden Griffin men's basketball program for the 2024-25 season.

A 6-foot-5, 190-pound guard, van der Plas joins the Canisius roster after spending the 2023-24 season with the prestigious Triple Threat U-19 team, based in the Netherlands. In 21 games last season, he averaged a team-leading 12.2 points per game, while shooting 45.9 percent from the field, highlighted by a 62.9 percent success clip from inside the arc. van der Plas was also good for 4.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.1 steals per game while averaging 25.1 minutes per contest.

"We are excited to add Evan to our program," Christian said. "He is an athletic guard who can put the ball on the floor and get to the basket, and we believe he has the skill set to be a good defender in the MAAC. He is coming to us from a strong Triple Threat program in the Netherlands, so he knows what it takes to work hard and that knowledge will help our program."

One of 11 new players on the Canisius roster for next season, van der Plas is the 10th addition to the line-up since Christian took over as the program's head coach on April 8. Of those 10 new players signed by Christian and his staff, four are international student-athletes.
