Zamora Highlights Women's Soccer All-MAAC Awards

Led by graduate student defender Alicia Zamora, a total of six members of the Canisius women's soccer program were recognized on Monday as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced its annual awards.

Zamora was the Golden Griffins lone major award winner for the Griffs being  named Defensive Player of the Year. Along with Zamora, seniors Emma Oliphant (midfield) and Madeline Weltin (forward) were named to the All-MAAC First Team. Seniors Erin Weir (midfield) and Sophia Konstantinou (defense) were tabbed to the All-MAAC Second Team. Senior goalkeeper Jordan Spencer rounded out the Golden Griffins award winners being named to the All-MAAC Third Team.

Zamora was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year and garnered All-MAAC First Team honors at the defense position in her first season with the Golden Griffins. Her graduate season saw her rank third on the team in scoring with 15 points on seven goals and one assist. The Valladolid, Spain native also broke the program record of penalty kick goals in a season and a career with five.

Oliphant earned All-MAAC Second Team accolades at the midfield position for the second straight year. She ranked second on the squad in scoring with 17 points on seven goals and three assists. The Burlington, Ontario, native led the team in shots (52) which ranked tied for seventh in MAAC Oliphant also tied for eighth in the MAAC points and tied for fifth in goals while being named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week last Friday.

Weltin earned All-MAAC First Team accolades at the forward position as she paced the team in both goals (8) and points (21) during the regular season. The Lombard, Illinois, product was fourth in the MAAC in points, and tied for third in goals. She was also named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week on 9/23/24.

Weir garnered All-MAAC Second Team honors at the midfield position as she led the team in assists (8) and fourth in points (12). The North Tonawanda, N.Y. native was ranked tied for second in the MAAC in assists as well as 28th in the country. She was also named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week on 9/23/24.

Konstantinou was tabbed to the All-MAAC Second Team at the defense position. A staple on the Golden Griffins back line that only allowed 11 goals, the Williamson, N.Y. native played every single minute for the Griffs on the backend this season while tallying three assists. She served as a team captain for the second year in a row.

Spencer was recognized on the All-MAAC Third Team at the goalkeeper position as she ranked tied for third in the MAAC in shutouts (8) while leading the conference in goals against average (.605) during the regular season. The Oxford, Mich native played every single minute for the Golden Griffins this season, highlighted by a four game shutout streak.

The MAAC also released the MAAC All-Academic Team where 15 Golden Griffins were honored.
