With the loss, the Golden Griffins slid to 1-3 in their young non-conference campaign. The Bonnies picked up their second win and moved to an even 2-2 on the season. Sophomore Shariah Gailes recorded the first double-double of her Division I career, scoring 11 points and nabbing a game-high 12 rebounds. She was complimented by junior guard Franka Wittenberg, who led the Griffs in scoring with 12 points and dished out three assists. Graduate student Jaela Johnson played a team-high 32:50 while making a season-high six assists and scoring 10 points. Haskell scored nearly half of the Bonnies points, ending her night with 29 as she went 10-of-15 from the floor, highlighted by a 4-of-7 effort from long distance. Isabellah Middleton also scored in double figures for the visitors, registering 14 points and four boards. . The Canisius offense was humming in the first quarter as the team shot 57.1 percent from the field and 50.0 percent (3-for-6) from three. To punctuate their hot start on offense, the Griffs' second-quarter defense held the Bonnies to seven points, marking the second straight game the Griffs has held their opponent to single digits in the second quarter. Down 36-24 after halftime, the Bonnies made their move in the third quarter, scoring 25 points while shooting 54.5 percent from the floor and making 12 foul shots. The Griffs maintained a 50-49 lead heading into the final period as St. Bonaventure continued to surge, taking a six-point lead at the 8:35 mark of the fourth quarter. In the final moments, Wittenberg was able to make a lay-up, cutting the lead to 66-63, but the Griffs were unable to force overtime as a game-tying 3-pointer rimmed out at the buzzer. GAME NOTES • Tuesday's contest served as the 59th all-time meeting between the two longtime Little Three foes. St.Bonaventure now leads the all-time series, 30-29. • Wittenberg reached double figures for the third straight game, the longest streak of her career. • Johnson's six assists marked a season-high for a Griffs player. • Gailes recorded the fourth double-double of her collegiate career after earning three last season at the University of Illinois Springfield. Her 12 rebounds matched her career high, also set at UIS. • Junior Mariam Sonogo grabbed a season-high eight rebounds in the contest and recorded a team-high two blocks. • Nine of the 11 Griffs who received playing time tonight recorded a point.
