Golf Tied for Sixth After Day One at Matthews Auto Collegiate

The Canisius golf team posted a team score of 296 and three Golden Griffin golfers sit in the top-30 of the field after the first round of the 2024 Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational tournament Sunday at the Links at Hiawatha Landing in Apalachin, N.Y.

As a team, Canisius' team score of 296 has the Griffs tied with Colgate in sixth place, three strokes back of fifth-place Siena. Hosting Binghamton and Laval are tied atop the team leaderboard after 18 holes after both squads shot 285 on Sunday, which is three strokes under par.

Sophomore Mikey Takacs, who is coming off his first collegiate win just two weeks ago at the Little Three Championship, carded a one-over score of 73 on Sunday, which ties him for 22nd in the field along with fellow sophomore Alex Schickling. Senior Ryan Edholm shot a two-over 74 and is tied for 30th, while sophomore Jake Dantonio posted a 76, which ties him for 47th in the 103-player field.

The second and final round of the 2024 Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational will tee-off on Monday at 9 a.m.
