Game Recap: Ice Hockey |

All Treats and No Tricks as Hockey Blanks Army

Sophomore forward Matteo Giampa recorded three points and sophomore goaltender Ethan Robertson stopped all 26 shots he faced to pace Canisius in a 4-0 victory over Army in Atlantic Hockey America action Thursday at LECOM Harborcenter in downtown Buffalo.

Giampa scored two goals and added an assist while junior Oliver Tarr finished with a goal and an assist for the Golden Griffins (2-6-0, 2-0-0 AHA). Graduate student Mikey Colella opened the scoring for Canisius, netting the eventual game-winning goal with his first in a Griffs uniform.

That would be all the support that Robertson would need as the netminder turned aside all 26 shots he faced, highlighted by a 12-save effort in the first period, to record his first career shutout.

JJ Cataldo got the start between the pipes for the Black Knights (2-4-0, 2-3-0 AHA) and finished with 21 stops.

Colella staked Canisius to a 1-0 lead just 1:37 into the first period, getting behind the Army defense before sliding the puck past Cataldo.

Giampa doubled the Canisius margin with less than two minutes to play in the opening frame, putting Tarr's feed past Cataldo to give the Griffs a 2-0 advantage. Tarr made it 3-0 Canisius at the 3:18 mark of the second period, finishing off a rush by slamming home Giampa's centering feed for his second goal of the season. Giampa closed out the scoring with less than five minutes to play in the third period, putting home an empty-net goal to give the Griffs the four-goal victory. POSTGAME COMMENTS GAME NOTES
