• Back on the Court
The Canisius volleyball team returns to the Steel City to compete in the Duquesne/Youngstown State Invitational for the second straight season. The Golden Griffins will take on the Dukes twice on Sept. 1 before wrapping up the tournament on Sept. 2 against the Colonials.

• Another Milestone
Graduate student outside hitter Ella Loussia collected another milestone as she eclipsed 1,000 career kills with her 10-kill performance against Belmont at the Youngstown State Invitational. Currently at 1,001 kills, Loussia is 49 away from passing Shannon Zaranek (1994-97) and moving into 10th all-time for total kills in a career.

• Hubert the Hero
Freshman outside hitter Lauren Hubert was named the Molten MAAC Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Aug. 29. Across three matches at the Youngstown State Invitational, Hubert collected 33 kills, 13 digs, and two total blocks. The Buffalo, N.Y., native produced an impressive debut match, collecting a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs against the host Penguins. Hubert is the first Canisius volleyball player to notch a weekly award this season.

• Seeing Double
The Griffs will play Duquesne twice on Sept. 1, marking the first instance since the Spring 2021 season that Canisius will play the same opponent twice in one day. The last instance was on March 28, 2021, when the Griffs faced Battle of the Bridge rival Niagara.

• Hot Start
Canisius is now 2-1 through the first three matches of the season for the second consecutive year with victories over Saint Francis (Pa.) and Belmont. This is the first time in program history where the Griffs have opened the season 2-1 through the first three contests of the year in back-to-back campaigns.

• Block Party
Sophomore middle blocker Bella Mosquera collected 11 total blocks (4 BS/7BA) at the Youngstown State Invitational. Against Belmont on Aug. 26, Mosquera nabbed five total blocks with two block solos and three block assists.

• Up Next
The Blue and Gold will return home for the first time this season to host the Western New York Invitational where they will face Kent State (Sept. 8) and Purdue Fort Wayne (Sept. 9).
