• Opening Day
The Canisius volleyball team opens its 48th season of competition by playing in the Youngstown State Invitational. The Golden Griffins will face Youngstown State and Saint Francis (Pa.) on Aug. 25 and Belmont on Aug. 26.

• Elite Ella
After a freshman campaign that saw her earn MAAC Rookie and Setter of the Year honors, sophomore setter Ella Bourque was tabbed to the Preseason All-MAAC Team, marking the second straight year a Golden Griffin earned the honor with former libero Bree Long getting named to the squad last season. Bourque finished the 2022 campaign with 1,033 assists, becoming the first freshman to tally 1,000 or more assists in a season. Her 1,033 total assists and 10.10 assists-per-set also led the MAAC last year.

• New Faces, New Places
Six new faces will come to Main Street this season for Canisius with four freshmen and two transfers. Cam Grange, Lauren Hubert, Anna Lynch and Kalia Reisma are all freshmen who will make their Canisius debut this season. Also joining the team are two transfers in Jillian Hanna (Marist) and Bella Mosquera (Holy Family).

• Facing the Volunteer State
Canisius and Belmont have never faced one another on the volleyball court. The Griffs have only ever played one school from Tennessee, that being East Tennessee State University back during the 2010 season.

• Zapped
Canisius and Saint Francis (Pa.) last met during the 2019 season at the Blue and White classic, with Canisius winning 3-0. During the third set, the Griffs only allowed eight points from the Red Flashes, a feat they would not match until last season against Niagara on Sept. 25, 2022. The Griffs, with 15 aces, were also one service ace shy of matching the then program record for aces in a three-set contest.

• Up Next
The Blue and Gold will head to the Steel City to play in the Duquesne/Robert Morris invitational from Sept. 1-2.
