Canisius Draws with Niagara in Final Midweek Contest

In the 127th meeting between Battle of the Bridge rivals Canisius and Niagara, Tuesday's rendition at Bobo Field finished 8-8 in 11 innings, becoming the first time ever that the two western New York rivals tied.

Canisius (21-20-1) collected 11 hits from nine different batters in the second non-conference game against the Purple Eagles but left 13 runners on base and 11 in scoring position.

Following a three-inning start from senior Rockne Seidel, Niagara (20-18-1) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the Golden Griffins went to the bullpen.

Entering the sixth with just one hit, the Blue & Gold responded with a four-run frame of their own. Senior Ryan Weiss collected two RBI on a single up the middle and junior Carlin Dick cracked a game-tying home run to deep right field.

Dick earned his third RBI of the day drawing a walk in the seventh for Canisius to take a 5-4 advantage. Niagara took the lead right back in the bottom half of the frame as Vinny Mauro hit his second home run of the contest.

Senior Kenny Dodson hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game in the top of the eighth, but Canisius made three errors that set up a go-ahead RBI single for Niagara infielder Kelly Corl during the bottom half of the frame.

Down to their final out, grad student Kyle Kush connected on a 1-0 pitch down the left field line to score Brennan Chisholm and force the bottom of the ninth.

Kush's heroics continued in the 11th, as he put Canisius up 8-7 with a sacrifice fly that plated Dick for his seventh multi-RBI performance of the campaign.

Wyatt Palmer hit a two-out single off grad student Brett Kochanski that brought in Mauro to tie the game for the fourth time. With the bases loaded, Kochanski fought back in the count to earn a strikeout against Nate Milk to end the contest via a coach's decision.

Game Notes
• Seidel threw a season-high three innings in his first start of the season which was his longest outing since his collegiate debut against UMass Lowell on Feb. 16th, 2019 (3.2).
• Kush stole three bases against Niagara, marking the first instance that the Guelph, Ontario, native had swiped multiple in a game.
• It was the first time Canisius has played in back-to-back extra-inning games since May 4 and May 5 2019 against Monmouth. The Griffs won 3-2 in 10 on May 4th, but lost 1-0 in 11 innings against the Hawks the next day.
• Catcher Ty Wevers threw out two Niagara baserunners at second, establishing a new career-high.
