The Canisius varsity 8 and second varsity 8 boats both secured second-place finishes against Sacred Heart and Manhattan in intercollegiate rowing action Saturday afternoon at Overpeck Park in Overpeck, N.J.

In the Golden Griffins first race of the day, the varsity 8 boat finished with a time of 7:52.907. Sacred Heart would win the race with a time of 7:39.668 while Manhattan came in third with a time of 8:17.208.

In the varsity 4 race, the Blue and Gold came in fourth place with a time of 9:51.377. Bucknell, who only entered a boat in the 1V4 race, took home first place with a time of 8:45.250.

Postgame Comments from Head Coach Kerri Brace:
"There were plenty of good takeaways from today. We were excited to finally get out and race against two conference opponents. We look forward to using the practices ahead to get ready to race again in a couple weeks".

Race Notes:

• This was the first race of the spring season for Canisius as its race last week against Cornell was canceled due to poor weather.
• Katie Bapst, Caitlin Barry and Mackenzie Harmon all took part in their first collegiate races today. Bapst rowed in the 2V8 boat while Barry and Harmon were in the 1V4 shell.
• Canisius was picked above Manhattan in the MAAC preseason poll and finished above the Jaspers in the 1V8 and 2V8 races. Manhattan did not enter a boat into the 1V4 race.

Up Next:
The Blue and Gold will race again on April 22 as they head to Hamilton, N.Y., to compete in the Colgate Regatta. Along with the host Raiders, the Blue and Gold will also compete against Holy Cross, Marist, Robert Morris and UConn
