Rowing Continues Spring Season at the Colgate Regatta

The Canisius varisty eight and second varsity eight boat each finished second in their respective petite finals at the Colgate Regatta during intercollegiate rowing action Saturday afternoon at the Erie Canal in Rome, N.Y.
 
The 1V8 boat came in third during their first heat of the day, finishing with a time of 6:59.75, sending them to the petite final. Marist won the heat with a time of 6:36.52. In the varsity eight petite final, the Golden Griffins would come in second with a time of 7:15.00 while Holy Cross would win the race with a time of 6:53.44.
 
For the 2V8 boat, they wrapped up their heat with a time of 7:25.04, finishing third and also sending them to the petite final. UConn would be victorious in the race, finishing in 6:47.93. In the second varsity eight petite final, the Griffs would finish with a time of 7:24.10. The host Raiders captured the 2V8 petite final with a final time of 7:09.65.
 
The Canisius varsity four boat could only race in their first race of the day as the 1V4 petite final was called off due to poor weather. In their lone race of the day, the 1V4 came in third with a time of 8:34.54. UConn was victorious with a time of 7:36.66.
 
Post Race Comments from Head Coach Kerri Brace:
"Today was a great opportunity to see some really fast crews. It's always good to see conference opponents for the championship. We'll take what we learned today back into training on Monday."
 
Race Notes:
  • This was the second consecutive year Canisius raced in the Colgate Regatta.
  • Canisius' 1V8 and 2V8 boat both finished above Robert Morris in their respective final races.  
Up Next:
The Blue and Gold return home for their lone event of the Spring season as they welcome Robert Morris, D'Youville and Mercyhurst to Frank Lloyd Wright's Fontana Boathouse. Racing is set to commence at 10:15 a.m.
