Army Defeats Hockey in Overtime to Force Game Three

Brett Abdelnour scored at the 6:17 of overtime to break a scoreless tie and lift No. 5 seed Army to a 1-0 victory over No. 4 seed Canisius in game two of their Atlantic Hockey Association Postseason Quarterfinal round series Saturday at LECOM Harborcenter.

Patrick Smith and Noah Wilson were credited with the assists on Abdelnour's overtime winner as the Black Knights (14-18-4) drew even in the best-of-three series and forced a winner-takes-all game three Sunday. Gavin Abric posted his second shutout of the Golden Griffins (16-17-3) this season as he recorded 23 saves.

Senior goaltender Jacob Barczewski made 34 saves between the pipes for Canisius.

In a tight-checking affair that saw a combined total of 58 shots on goal by both teams, Abdelnour won the game just past the six-minute mark of overtime when he floated a wrist shot from the top of the point that Barczewski was unable to track through traffic, finding its way into the goal to give the Black Knights the win.

The Griffs best chance to score in regulation came in the third period, as freshman Stefano Bottini created a shorthanded breakaway, but Abric got a piece of his shot that then hit the right post and stayed out.

Bottini also had a chance to end the game for the Griffs less than two minutes into overtime, but his point-blank chance was turned aside by the left pad of Abric to keep the game scoreless, setting the stage for Abdelnour's game-winner.
