Hockey Blanks Army in Game Three to Advance to AHA Semis

Senior Jacob Barczewski stopped all 29 shots he faced to lead No. 4 seed Canisius to a 3-0 victory over No. 5 seed Army in game three of their Atlantic Hockey Association Postseason Quarterfinal Round series Sunday at LECOM Harborcenter in downtown Buffalo.

Senior Ryan Miotto, graduate student Erik Urbank and freshman Stefano Bottini accounted for the three goals for the Golden Griffins (17-17-3), who claimed the best-of-three series, 2-1, and advanced to the AHA Postseason Semifinals with the win.

Gavin Abric finished with 33 saves between the pipes for the Black Knights (14-19-4).

Following a scoreless first period, Miotto staked Canisius to a 1-0 lead just 95 seconds into the second, collecting a cross-ice pass from senior Keaton Mastrodonato in the left corner of the Army zone and working his way towards the goal before ringing a shot off the right post and in for his 15th goal of the season.
Urbank doubled the Griffs advantage with 4.5 seconds remaining in the middle period, grabbing the puck out of the face-off circle during a draw before skating to the slot and firing a shot between the pads of Abric for his second goal of the series. Bottini put the game out of reach in the final two minutes of regulation, chipping a backhanded effort into the vacant Army goal to put the game out of reach. Post Game Comments Game Notes
