The Golden Griffins (8-11, 4-0 MAAC) scored double-digit runs for the fourth time in the last five games, improving its winning streak to five games while also earning its 1,000th win as a program.

Jayson Gonzalez paced Iona (4-18, 0-1 MAAC), hitting a pair of triples in the loss for the Gaels.

Junior Max Grant opened the scoring for the home squad in the bottom of the first with an RBI single to right to plate graduate Dylan Vincent. Grant later came around to score on a throwing error by the Iona backstop following his successful steal of third base.

Leading 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth, redshirt sophomore JT Ennen roped an RBI single to the left-center gap to drive in graduate Kyle Kush.

Canisius plated a pair of runs in the fifth before Vincent opened the sixth with his fifth homer of the season before senior Mike DeStefano scored on a wild pitch later in the frame to give the Griffs an 8-1 advantage.

The Blue and Gold broke the game open in the seventh, scoring 10 runs in the frame for the second straight contest.

Canisius sent 16 batters to the dish, earning eight walks and a pair of hit by pitches.

Up 10-1, DeStefano helped break the game open further by clearing the bases with a three-run triple to the left-center gap, the lone hit for the Griffs in the inning.

Holding an 18-2 lead heading into the ninth, freshman Sam Staerker worked a three-up, three-down inning to secure the victory, striking out the first two batters he faced.
