Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Begins Conference Play 6-0

Canisius mashed five home runs on the day, including a go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh inning of game two by redshirt sophomore JT Ennen, as the Golden Griffins defeated Iona, 7-4 and 7-5, to complete the series sweep on Sunday in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference baseball action from the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y.

The Griffs (10-11, 6-0 MAAC) improved their winning streak to seven games and became the first team in the conference to win its first six contests.

The Gaels (4-20, 0-3 MAAC) were led by Jim Pasquale in the pair of losses Sunday, who went a combined 5-9 with three extra-base hits.

Game One Recap
After Iona's Nick Forney hit a two-run single in the second, Canisius responded an inning and a half later with a four-run third inning.

Graduate Dylan Vincent and junior Max Grant connected on back-to-back one out doubles to knot the game at two.

Grant later scored on a passed ball before senior Mike DeStefano singled home sophomore Cole Sebastian to give the Griffs a two-run lead.

Junior Ty Wevers added to the Canisius lead in the home half of the fourth, slugging his first home run with the Blue and Gold.

Pasquale cut the Griffs advantage to one in the fifth, hitting a two-run homer off sophomore Aaron Duffy

Redshirt sophomore Josh Niles added an insurance marker for Canisius in the sixth, slugging a solo shot for his third long ball of the campaign while DeStefano clubbed an RBI double in the seventh for the two-run lead.

Senior Chris Pouliot made the start, allowing one earned run in three innings of work. The southpaw was piggy-backed by Duffy, who fanned five Gaels in three innings. Redshirt sophomore Ethan Hennessy worked a pair of two perfect innings after Duffy, striking out three before graduate Brett Kochanski struck out a pair to earn his second save of the season.

Game Two Recap
Ennen's three-run shot in the seventh was the highlight of the second game as Canisius slugged three long balls in the victory.

Junior Carlin Dick hit his second three-run blast of the week in the second, giving Canisius an early 3-0 advantage.
Iona's bats controlled the offense as the Gaels put up five runs over the next three frames, highlighted by a four-run sixth.

Down two in the seventh, Ennen connected on a ball from Iona pitcher Clark Eder, sending it into the left field netting for his first collegiate home run that gave Canisius the 6-5 lead.

Two batters later, Grant slugged his first homer of the campaign, hitting the outside pitch to deep center, putting the Griffs up two.

Starter Tom Peltier fanned a career-high 10 batters in four innings pitched in the no-decision. Freshman Felix Morin earned his second victory of the season, tossing an inning and a third of scoreless baseball before handing the ball to sophomore Peyton Consigli, who struck out four in two shutout innings for his first save of the season.
