Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Sweeps Series at Mount St. Mary’s

Canisius scored a run in each of the nine innings while establishing a program record for walks in a single game in the 23-6 game one victory before using a four-run eighth to pull away for a 9-5 win in the second game to help the Golden Griffins sweep Mount St. Mary's Sunday in collegiate baseball action from the E.T. Straw Family Stadium in Emmitsburg, Md.

The Griffs (6-11, 3-0 MAAC) had five players reach base at least eight times throughout the series while scoring 47 runs across the three contests.

The Mountaineers (10-12, 0-3 MAAC) made it a ballgame in the series finale by taking a lead in the sixth, but surrendered that advantage to drop all three games on the weekend.

Game One Recap
Graduate Dylan Vincent set the tone for the offense in the opening frame, sending the first pitch he saw over the wall for the leadoff home run.

Canisius plated three more runs in the second from a two-run single from backstop JT Ennenand an RBI fielder's choice from Vincent.

Sophomore Jackson Strong hit a solo shot in the third before senior Mike DeStefano and redshirt sophomore Josh Niles both drove in a pair to make it a 9-1 ballgame in the fourth frame.

The Griffs added five more runs to the scoreboard in the fifth when junior Max Grant hit a two-run stand-up triple to the left-center gap before DeStefano slugged his first home run of the season later in the inning, a three-run shot to right.

In the sixth, Vincent continued his hot day at the plate when he crushed his second longball of the day, giving him four runs batted in before adding his fifth on a sacrifice fly in the seventh, putting Canisius up 18-5.

The Griffs added four more runs in the eighth, highlighted by Vincent's sixth RBI of the day on a bases loaded walk and pinch hitter Trent Rumley's two-run single.

Sophomore Alex Terry-Emanuel drove in his first collegiate run in the ninth, playing Strong on a sacrifice fly to score Canisius' 23rd run of the contest.

Freshman Felix Morin earned his first collegiate win, tossing five innings of relief ball for the Griffs, a season-high for the southpaw.

Morin came out of the bullpen for sophomore Aaron Duffy, who yielded just two runs on one hit while fanning three batters.

Game Two Recap
DeStefano gave the Griffs a 2-0 advantage in the first when he slugged his second home run of the day, a no-doubter to right.

Vincent connected on his second of four hits in the game in the second inning with a single to left to plate graduate Kyle Kush, putting the visitors up three.

After Mount St. Mary's cut into the lead with a run in the home half of the third, Vincent crushed his third home run of the afternoon, sending the ball over the right-center wall for a 4-1 lead.

The Mount used RBI singles from David Stirpe and Scott Seeker in the fourth and fifth frames before Brady Drawbaugh hit a two-run shot in the sixth to give the home squad a 5-4 lead, promptly ending Canisius starter Tom Peltier's day.

The Griffs tied the contest at five-all in the seventh on senior Kenny Dodson's RBI single up the middle before taking the lead in the eighth with a four-spot.

Vincent capped off his scorching hot day at the dish with a single to center to score Kush before Dodson recorded his second RBI single in as many innings later in the frame.

Up 7-5, Strong and Niles recorded back-to-back RBI singles to right, adding a pair of insurance markers.
Graduate Brett Kochanski earned his first win of the campaign after tossing two shutout frames. Kochanski handed the ball off to sophomore Peyton Consigli, who set down the Mount in order to secure the sweep for the Griffs.
