Miotto’s Overtime Winner Gives Hockey 3-2 Victory at No. 18 RIT

Senior forward Ryan Miotto scored a power-play goal with 1:41 remaining in overtime to give Canisius a 3-2 victory over No. 18 RIT in Atlantic Hockey Association action Saturday at the Gene Polisseni Center in Rochester, N.Y.

Miotto's overtime winner capped a three-point evening for the Thorold, Ontario native as he also notched a pair of assists to help the Golden Griffins (9-14-3, 7-8-3 AHA) earn a split of the home-and-home series against its regional rival. Senior David Melaragni also finished with a goal and two assists while graduate student J.D. Pogue scored the opening goal for the Blue and Gold. Senior Jacob Barczewski made 27 saves between the pipes for Canisius

Calvon Boots and Kobe Walker tallied the two goals for the Tigers (19-8-1, 15-4-1 AHA). Tommy Scarfone made 29 stops between the pipes for RIT.

Boots opened the scoring 3:10 into the contest, beating Barczewski with a wrist shot to the blocker side while on the break to give the Tigers the early lead.

Canisius drew even less than three minutes later with a power-play goal as Pogue was able to stuff home a loose puck after Melragni's initial attempt from the top of the point was blocked by a RIT defenseman.
RIT regained the lead with just under two minutes to play in the opening frame as Walker put home a backdoor feed from Evan Miller to give the Tigers a 2-1 advantage.

Melaragni brought the Griffs level at the 16:22 mark of the second period when his shot from the left point found its way through traffic and over the right shoulder of Scarfone to knot the score at 2-2.
The game would head to overtime, where Miotto would net the game-winner with less than two minutes remaining putting a one-timer past the blocker of Scarfone from the left face-off dot during a 4-on-3 power play. Head Coach Trevor Large's Post Game Comments Game Notes
