Men’s Duo Qualifies for Finals on Day One of MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships

Highlighted by a pair of finals qualifiers on the men's side, the Canisius men's and women's indoor track teams took part in day one of the 2023 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships in New York City on Saturday.

For the men, junior Andrew Perreault won his heat and took second overall in the preliminaries of the men's one-mile run, crossing the finish line in 4:13.61 to qualify for the final on Sunday.

Graduate Richard Moore qualified for the finals of the 800-meter run after finishing seventh in the preliminaries with a time of 1:54.85. His time shattered his previous personal best by nearly four seconds and was the fourth fastest time in school history.

Senior Tom Appenheimer (14:37.78) and graduate student Michael Peppy (14:39.35) placed fifth and sixth place, respectively, to register a pair of top-10 finishes in the men's 5,000-meter run.

The women's distance medley relay took fourth place as the quartet of senior Marissa Silba, junior Maura Jordan, junior Jules Jones and senior Olivia Moran finished in a time of 12:26.81.

Jordan also placed 11th in the women's 400-meter dash, recording a time of 1:00.52.

The MAAC Championships conclude Sunday at 5 p.m. at the New Balance Track & Field Center with those who qualified in Saturday's events.
