Chu Tabbed both MAAC Rookie and Defensive Player of the Week

Canisius freshman goalie Jody Chu took home a pair of TicketSmarter Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference weekly awards, garnering both Defensive and Rookie of the Week honors, the league office announced Monday.

Chu is the first MAAC women's lacrosse player to earn two-or-more weekly honors in the same week since Monmouth's Caroline Brennan took home Rookie and Offensive Player of the Week honors on Feb. 21, 2022.

The South Riding, Va., native shined during her first collegiate start this past Sunday at Detroit Mercy, making 10 saves on 15 shots while picking up a team-high four ground balls. Chu also did not allow a single goal during the third quarter, becoming the first Canisius goalie since women's lacrosse moved to quarters to accomplish the feat.

Chu and the Golden Griffins (1-0) are back in action on Wednesday at Little Three rival St. Bonaventure. Opening draw from Olean, N.Y., is scheduled for 3 p.m.
