Sacred Heart attempted to spark a late-game comeback when they cut the deficit to one on an even-strength goal from Sadie Stevens with 52 seconds remaining.

Canisius won the ensuing draw and were poised to run out the clock but Jamie Tanner caused a Canisius turnover, allowing the host Pioneers to get attempt a potential equalizer in the final seconds that sailed above the crossbar, allowing the Griffs to hold on for the one-goal victory.

Earlier in the contest, Sacred Heart opened the scoring before Fitzgerald and sophomore Katie Adams scored back-to-back goals to take the lead. The Pios found the back of the net moments later to even up the contest at 2-2 heading into the second quarter.
