Softball Names Two New Assistant Coaches

Canisius head softball coach Kim Griffin announced the hiring of father-daughter duo George Weimer and Katie Weimer as assistant coaches on Friday.

"We're so excited to add George and Katie to our staff this year" Griffin said. ""George will be working with our outfield and hitters and Katie will be working with our catchers as well as helping out with hitters. They're both incredibly passionate about the game and continuing to build on our championship tradition here at Canisius. In the short time they've been with us, they've already added a great deal to the program and the team!"

George has more than 20 years of travel softball coaching experience with organizations that include Orchard Park, Hamburg Extreme, WNY Sting, New Era Diamond Girls, Amherst Lightning and the Storm. He also has coaching experience within the school districts of Silver Creek and East Aurora.

Katie played collegiate softball at the University at Buffalo and the University of Tennessee, where she was named to the 2016 MAC All-Freshman Team, and earned SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll accolades in 2017, 2018 and 2019. She helped Tennessee make the NCAA Super Regionals all three years with the Volunteers.

After her collegiate career, Weimer entered the coaching ranks with the Gold Coast Hurricanes, a distinguished travel softball organization originating in Florida. She then continued her coaching career at BC Athletics in Knoxville, Tenn.

A native of Orchard Park, N.Y., Weimer earned her bachelor's degree in education at the University of Tennessee in 2019. She earned her master's degree in occupational therapy from Tennessee Wesleyan University in 2022.
