Novice 4 Shell Finishes First at Yinzer Cup

Highlighted by a first-place finish from the Novice 4 shell in the novice eights race, the Canisius rowing team continued their fall season at the Yinzer Cup, hosted by Robert Morris.

In the Griffs first race of the day, the Golden Griffins varsity 8 shell came in second with at time of 15:30.07. Duquesne would win the race by six seconds, completing the course in a time of 15:24.3. The Canisius 2v8 boat would finish the course with a time of 18:29.9.

The Canisius novice 4 boat, which featured Gianna Perugini, Mackenzie Harmon, Briana Wasil, Ava Morgan and Shayna Klose, would take first in the novice 8's race with a time of 8:48.2. The Duquesne B shell came in second with a time of 9:08.4. Duquesne's A and B shells along with Robert Morris all raced boats with eight rowers while Canisius only had four rowers during the event.

In the Blue and Gold's final race of the day, it would come down to the wire with the varsity 4 A boat coming in second with a time of 15:28.1. The Duquesne varsity A four boat, which won the race, finished just one second ahead of the Griffs shell with a time of 15:27.0. The Canisius varsity 4 B shell would complete the race in 16:06.4 while the varsity 4 C boat finished with a time of 17:13.4.

RACE NOTES:

The Canisius 2v8 boat, which finished the varsity eight race with a time of 18:29.9, was forced to stop short of the finish line in order to not impede boats sitting at the finish line, which affected their overall time.
The novice 4's time of 8:48.2 was their fasted recorded time of the Fall season
This was the fourth straight year the Blue and Gold raced in the Yinzer Cup

Canisius will be back in action on Oct. 28 with its final race of the Fall season at the Head of the Schuylkill in Philadelphia, Pa.
