Thind, Oliphant Recognized as Student-Athletes of the Month for September

Men's soccer graduate defender Inder Thind and women's soccer junior midfielder Emma Oliphant have been recognized as the Canisius Student-Athletes of the Month of September.

A native of Brampton, Ontario Thind has become a trusted defender for the Griffs, receiving ample amounts of playing time throughout his career at Canisius. Thind appeared in 17 games and made 16 starts in 2022, marking his second straight season with more than 1000 minutes played. This season, Thind has played the full 90 minutes in games against St. Francis (Pa.) and defending MAAC champion Quinnipiac. He has played in seven games during the 2023 season and has been in the starting 11 in six of them, averaging 69 minutes per game. Half way through the season, Thind has played 480 minutes and is on pace to have a third straight season with over 1000 minutes played.

A two-time MAAC Men's Socer All-Academic Team honoree, Thind graduated with his bachelor's degree in sport management from Canisius in May and is currently pursuing his master's degree in sport administration.

A native of Burlington, Ontario, Oliphant has started all 11 games played by the Griffs this season, registering three goals and two assists for eight points. She scored the game-winning goal and added an additional marker in a 3-1 victory at Saint Peter's on Sept. 9, the first multiple-goal game of her collegiate career.

During her time on Main Street, Oliphant has started 44 of the 46 games she has played in and has five goals and 15 points. She was an All-MAAC Second Team selection last season as she ranked second on the squad in points (7) and was tied for team lead in assists (3). Oliphant finished the 2022 campaign fourth in the MAAC in shots on goal per game (1.32) and six in shot attempts per contest (2.84)

A health and wellness major at Canisius, Oliphant was named to MAAC Women's Soccer All-Academic Team in 2022.
