This Week in Canisius Athletics: Jan. 3-9

Two home games for women's basketball, including the return of Kid's Day, as well as a pair of MAAC road contests for men's basketball makeup the slate of games This Week in Canisius Athletics.

• The men's basketball team takes to the road this week for a pair of league games at Manhattan and Saint Peter's. The Golden Griffins are scheduled to tangle with the Jaspers in a 7 p.m. matchup on Friday before turning their focus to the defending league champion Peacocks in a 1 p.m. matinee on Sunday.
• Canisius suffered a pair of heartbreaking losses last week as it fell to conference foes Rider (66-64) and Mount St. Mary's (64-60). Both games were played at Niagara's Gallagher Center due to ongoing clean-up efforts in and around Canisius' campus following the blizzard that impacted Western New York Christmas Weekend.
• Graduate student Jordan Henderson became the 40th player in program history to reach the 1,000-career point milestone with a second-half basket against Rider on Dec. 31. Henderson tallied a game-high 17 points in the matchup against the Broncs, all of which were scored in the game's second half.
• In the matchup against conference newcomer Mount St. Mary's on Jan. 2, graduate student Jamir Moultrie led the Griffs with a team-high 11 points while sophomore TJ Gadsden  came off the bench to score nine points to go with a career-high 10 rebounds in the loss. Senior George Maslennikov scored six points and grabbed a career-high eight boards.
• Canisius is back in the Koessler Athletic Center next week with a pair of MAAC matchups against Marist (Jan. 13) and Siena (Jan. 15). The Griffs and Red Foxes are scheduled for a 7 p.m. contest while Canisius and the Saints will square off in a 1 p.m. tip-off to complete their regular-season series.

• The women's basketball team returns to the Koessler Athletic Center to face Saint Peter's on Jan. 5 at 11 a.m. for Kid's Day before taking on Quinnipiac on Jan. 7 at 1 p.m. Both games will be streamed on ESPN3.
 • Freshman forward Sisi Eleko garnered Hercules Tires Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week honors for the third consecutive week on Monday. The Montreal, Quebec, native averaged 13.5 points, 5.0 rebound and 3.0 steals per game during road contests at Manhattan and Siena last week. Versus the Jaspers on Dec. 29, Eleko scored nine points while grabbing seven rebounds and recording one steal. During the Griffs' New Year's Day matchup with the Saints, she matched her season high with 17 points and posted a season-best five steals. 
 • Against Manhattan, junior guard Dani Haskell scored a season-high 24 points, going 9-of-13 from the floor with four makes from beyond the arc. During the first quarter of the contest, Haskell had 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting.
 • Canisius is 19-14 all-time at home against Saint Peter's. Only one of the prior five meetings between the Peacocks and Griffs has been held at the Koessler Athletic Center, with the last contest in Buffalo, N.Y., coming on Dec. 19, 2021.
• The Blue and Gold head to the Garden State next week to face Rider on Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. before traveling to Emmitsburg, Md., on Jan. 14 to tip-off against conference newcomer Mount St. Mary's at 1 p.m. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
