Copple, Singleton Tabbed Student-Athletes of the Month for December

Women's Basketball junior Mary Copple and men's basketball junior Kahlil Singleton have been named the Milk for Life Canisius Student-Athletes of the Month for December, the athletic department announced on Thursday.

A native of Brighton, Mich., Copple has appeared in all 16 games for the Golden Griffins, making nine starts. She has averaged a career-best 4.3 points per game while also pitching 1.9 rebounds and 0.9 assists per contest. Copple has scored in double figures on two occasions this season, including a season-high matching 11 points in Canisius' 57-41 victory over Battle of the Bridge rival Niagara on Jan. 14.

A biology major, Copple was named to the 2024-25 MAAC All-Academic Team. She has garnered Dean's List recognition in all five of her semesters at Canisius and is a member of the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society.

Singleton, meanwhile, has started all 18 games played in his first season on Main Street. He leads the Griffs in scoring (13.2), thanks in large part to a three-point field goal percentage (.397) that ranks fourth in the MAAC and amongst the top 50 players in the country. Singleton was named an Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) on Jan. 6 after recording a combined 57 points in wins against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foes Fairfield and Sacred Heart at the Koessler Athletic Center.

Majoring in sociology, Singleton was named to the Dean's List in his first full semester at Canisius.

The fall 2025 semester saw Canisius student-athletes post a cumulative grade point average of 3.50, the 10 straight semester with a departmental cumulative GPA of 3.40 or greater.

In addition, all 21 of the Golden Griffins' varsity intercollegiate athletic programs fashioned a team cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher, with 18 squads exceeding a 3.30 cumulative GPA.

The fall semester also featured a total of 69 student-athletes earn a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Those 69 student-athletes highlighted a group of 374 student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher, representing 85% of the University's total student-athlete population.
