Men’s Lacrosse Mourns the Passing of Former Standout Jim Corrigan ’94

The Canisius men's lacrosse program mourns the loss of one of its own, as former Golden Griffin midfielder Jim Corrigan '94 recently passed away on Jan. 11, 2023.

A four-letterwinner, Corrigan helped lay the foundation for the Canisius program during its formative years. Joining the squad after its inaugural season, Corrigan appeared in 50 games for the Blue and Gold, recording 38 goals and 23 assists for 61 points while also collecting 68 ground balls.

Upon his graduation from Canisius in 1994, Corrigan served his country as a member of the United States Navy before returning to his hometown to continue his service to others as a member of the Fire Department of New York City (FDNY). After his passing, it was announced that Corrigan had passed his certification to become a FDNY Captain, an honor which he kept to himself, keeping in line with his desire to not make things about him.

"Jim was a man of principle, he said what he meant, and meant what he said," former teammate and fellow Class of 1994 member John Webster said. "Jim was a fierce friend and father who would be by your side in both the good times and the bad. Jim was the type of person you always wanted in your corner.

"Jim was one of my best friends. We met the very first weekend in college.  I used to ask him, 'where do you want to live when you retire?'…to which he always replied, 'right next to you.'  I, along with so many others, deeply loved and will miss, Jim Corrigan."
