The Canisius volleyball team begins MAAC play this weekend when it welcomes Fairfield to the Koessler Athletic Center on Saturday. This is the first time the two sides have met since the MAAC Volleyball Championship semifinals when the Stags defeated the Golden Griffins 3-2.
 
Last weekend, the Griffs fell in all three matches at the 2022 Western New York Invitational, dropping contests to Buffalo, Youngstown State and Bucknell. Senior outside hitter Ella Loussia was named to the all-tournament team after nabbing 38 kills, five service aces and 17 digs across three matches. History was also made as senior libero Bree Long became the fourth player in program history to cross the 1,500 digs threshold in the first set against Youngstown State.
 
Long and freshman setter Ella Bourque were each honored as the MAAC announced its the Molten Volleyball Weekly Awards on Tuesday. Long took home libero of the week honors after posting 64 digs and a 5.82 digs-per-set clip. As for Bourque, she won her third consecutive rookie of the week award after totaling 96 assists and continuing to lead the MAAC in assists per set with an average of 8.95.
 
The Griffs are back in action tomorrow at noon against Quinnipiac in their second MAAC match of the season.
