Women’s Soccer Adds Eight Newcomers to Roster

Canisius women's soccer head coach Ryan Louis announced the addition of eight student-athletes to the roster Friday.

Emily Brewer (Strongsville, Ohio), Skylar Cornell (Bainbridge Township, Ohio), Melissa Groseibl (Hardwick, N.J.), Lizzy Harkness (Bolton, England), Meghan Heath (Medina, Ohio), Mia Iacona (Shelby Township, Mich.), Mia Maruna (Lombard, Ill.) and Lily Mittendorf (Baton Rouge, La.) will join the Golden Griffins program as freshmen for the fall 2022 semester.

"This is another strong recruiting class and we are really excited to welcome these eight players to Canisius," Louis said. "This group brings a ton of experience to our program and I look forward to seeing them make an impact on the field in the upcoming weeks."

"Mia is a dynamic forward who can play anywhere across the front three. She is great in 1v1 situations and has an eye for goal. Her speed and forward thinking play will bring another option to our attack."

Mia Maruna | Berea, Ohio | West X
"Mia is a center forward with lots of energy. She is always looking to run in behind and cause defenders problems. Not only is she a threat on the ball, but possesses the defensive qualities we look for off the ball."

Lily Mittendorf | Baton Rouge, La. | LSU Laboratory
"Lily is a strong, physical player who doesn't shy away from a challenge. Her passing range is exceptional, which will give us a different look when in possession. She is versatile, which allows her to play at a high level in multiple positions on the field."

Canisius is set to open the 2022 campaign on August 18 when the team hosts St. Francis Brooklyn in a non-conference match at the Demske Sports Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
