Giese Named MAAC Pitcher of the Week

For the fourth time this season, sophomore Megan Giese was named the MAAC Softball Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.

Giese threw her second no-hitter of the season on Sunday in Canisius' 9-0 victory over Battle of the Bridge rival Niagara.

In five innings of work, Giese allowed just one free pass in the second inning before retiring the final 10 batters she faced.

The Buffalo, N.Y., native became just the fourth pitcher in program history to throw multiple no-hitters in a single season, joining Michelle Corrigan and Natalie Kelterborn (1994) and Andrea Bunten (2004). Giese is also the eighth pitcher in school history to throw multiple no-hitters in their career.

Finishing the regular season with a league-leading 11 wins and 1.67 ERA, Giese struck out at least six batters in nine of her 10 conference starts this season.

Canisius will play its first game of the 2022 MAAC Softball Championship on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. The Griffs will face the winner of the second game on Wednesday, between No. 4 Rider versus No. 5 Marist.

All games throughout the championship will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
