Consigli Named MAAC Rookie of the Week

Freshman Peyton Consigli was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.

The award for Consigli marks the third time this season that the right-handed pitcher has been named the conference's top newcomer. He was the season's inaugural Rookie of the Week on Feb. 21 and also earned the honor on March 15.

A Canisius player has received four of the six Rookie of the Week awards so far this season. Aaron Duffy was the other Griff to be honored by the conference (March 1).

Over two appearances in last weekend's series at Quinnipiac, Consigli allowed one hit in four innings of work. He fanned three batters in a pair of two-inning outings. He also issued one walk.

So far in eight appearances this season, Consigli has a 1-1 record and a team-best 1.83 ERA. In 19.2 innings, he has allowed just four runs on 14 hits and has struck out 21 batters. On the year, opponents are batting just .197 off of the first-year pitcher from Fonthill, Ontario.

Canisius begins a four-game homestand this afternoon when it hosts Cornell at 3 p.m. Game action will be broadcast on ESPN3.
