1) Opening Face-off
The Canisius men's lacrosse team opens the home portion of its 2022 schedule with a Sunday matinee against Cleveland State. Opening face-off between the Golden Griffins and Vikings is slated for noon at the Demske Sports Complex.

2) Series Notes
Sunday's game serves as the fourth meeting between Canisius and Cleveland State, all of which have occurred since the Vikings' inaugural season in 2017. The Griffs hold a 2-1 edge in the series, having won the first two matchups before CSU claimed the most recent meeting in 2019. In their previous matchup at the Demske Sports Complex, Canisius escaped with a 12-11 victory over the visiting Vikings back on March 4, 2018. CSU is the third of four matchups for the Griffs against members of the newly-formed Atlantic Sun Conference this season. Canisius is 1-1 with a 13-11 win against Bellarmine on Feb. 19 and 9-8 overtime setback at Air Force on Feb. 28. The Griffs are slated to play Robert Morris on March 9 in their final contest against an ASUN member this season.

3) First Overtime in a Longtime
Canisius went to overtime for the first time in nearly four years with its loss at Air Force on Feb. 28. Prior to Monday's contest against the Falcons, the last time the Griffs played in a game that required extra time was the title game of the 2018 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship, a 10-9 victory over Detroit Mercy back on May 5, 2018. With the extra-session defeat to the Falcons, Canisius is now 3-1 in overtime games under fifth-year head coach Mark Miyashita.

4) Keeping Possession
Canisius had one of its best days in terms of maintaining possession in recent memory during its contest against Air Force as it was charged with just 12 turnovers during the overtime matchup with the Falcons. The 12 miscues against Air Force represented the second-lowest turnover total in a game for the Griffs since the start of the 2019 season, nearly matching its 11-turnover performance at St. Bonaventure on April 6, 2021.

5) Kelly Among Nation's Best Goal Scorers
Redshirt freshman attackman Colin Kelly has been quick to impress during his first season on the field as he paces Canisius with 16 goals through the Griffs' first five games. The Syracuse, N.Y., native, who already has four hat tricks to his credit this season, enters the weekend ranked second in the MAAC and 21st nationally in goals per game (3.20). Kelly's early-season production is even more impressive when you consider he is just one of three freshmen, along with Bucknell's Connor Davis (4.75/2nd) and Notre Dame's Chris Kavanagh (3.00/23rd), to rank among the top 50 players nationally in that category.
