Offense Powers North Carolina A&T to Victory over Baseball

North Carolina A&T scored runs in the first four innings, jumping out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back as the Aggies defeated Canisius, 16-4, at World War Memorial Stadium in Greensboro, N.C., on Saturday afternoon.

Cort Maynard went 3-for-6 with a trio of two-run home runs to pace the Aggies' offensive attack. Eleven of the 12 batters who had an at-bat for North Carolina A&T recorded at least one hit.

Logan Jarosz earned the victory for the Aggies (9-9), allowing 10 hits and three runs in 6.1 innings. He walked one and struck out five.

Juniors Mike DeStefano, Trevor Henneman and Brennan Chisholm and senior Kyle Kush all had multi-hit performances for Canisius (7-10) in the loss.

Every starter for the Golden Griffins, just like North Carolina A&T, had at least one base hit in the contest.

Freshman Aaron Duffy was the losing pitcher after starting the first three innings for the Golden Griffins. He allowed five runs on six hits while walking one and striking out two.

GAME RECAP
Camden Jackson opened the scoring in the first inning, hitting a two-run double to the right-center field gap.

Cameran Brantley plated the lone run for the Aggies in the second with a two-out RBI triple down the right field line before T.J. Ash hit a two-run home run in the third.

The Aggies added three more runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 8-0, behind the power of a sacrifice fly and Maynard's first round-tripper of the day.

Back-to-back RBI singles by Jackson and Anthony Hennings in the sixth put the Aggies' lead to 10-0.

Canisius' first runs of the contest came in the seventh on back-to-back RBI singles with the bases loaded by sophomore Max Grant and freshman Josh Niles. Graduate student Mike Steffan followed up the pair of run-scoring hits with a sacrifice fly to trim the deficit to 10-3.

North Carolina A&T responded with a pair of doubles before Maynard's second home run of the game increased the Aggies lead back to 10 runs. An additional run scored on a throwing error, making it 14-3.

Maynard's third homer of the game came in the eighth, extending North Carolina A&T's lead to 16-3.

Junior Brennan Chisholm hit an RBI single down the left field line to plate Niles in the top of the ninth.

Head Coach Matt Mazurek's Postgame Comments
