• The hockey team closes out the non-conference portion of its regular-season schedule Saturday as it takes on Maine. Puck drop for the matchup between the Golden Griffins and Black Bears is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Alfond Arena in Orono, Maine.
• Saturday's contest serves as just the fourth meeting between the two programs and the first since a two-game series Jan. 2-3, 2015. The Black Bears have won all three previous meetings, all of which have taken place at Alfond Arena.
• Canisius closed out league play for the fall semester with a split of its home-and-home series against longtime rival RIT. The Griffs won the opener, 2-1, in overtime thanks to a goal from senior Ryan Miotto. In the finale, the Tigers overcame an early deficit on its way to posting a 10-4 triumph.
• Senior goaltender Jacob Barczewski picked up his fourth career assist with a helper on freshman Stefano Bottini's first-period goal in the series finale against RIT on Dec. 3. Barczewski is the first Canisius netminder to notch three or more assists during his career since Dan Morrison ended his time on Main Street with four helpers (2008-12).
• Following its traditional end-of-semester break, Canisius returns to action Dec. 30-31 as it begins a six-game road swing with an Atlantic Hockey Association series at Air Force.

• The men's basketball team takes to the road for its lone contest of the week, traveling to Toledo for a 2 p.m. matinee Saturday at Savage Arena.
• The Griffs opened MAAC play last week with a pair of road losses at Siena (74-70) and at Iona (90-60).  
• Redshirt-freshman Tahj Staveskie was named the Hercules Tires MAAC Rookie of the Week on Monday for the third time this season after he averaged 10.5 points, 4.0 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game in the Golden Griffins' first two MAAC contests of the season.
• Graduate student Jamir Moultrie leads the MAAC in 3-point field goals made per game (2.9), total 3-point field goal makes (23) and 3-point field goal shooting percentage(43.4 percent). He has connected on multiple baskets from behind the 3-point arc in seven of the team's eight contests this season.
• Canisius completes its seven-game road swing next week as it travels to Big Ten foe Penn State on Dec. 18 before making its way to the Sunshine State for a Dec. 21 matchup with Florida Gulf Coast.

•The women's basketball team closes out non-conference play this week with a pair of contests. The Griffs open the week against Little Three rival St. Bonaventure Wednesday in a 6 p.m. matchup before traveling to Youngstown State Saturday for a 1 p.m. matinee. Wednesday's showdown with the Bonnies also serves as ALS Awareness Night, an important cause to the program. 
• Wednesday's game serves as the 25th all-time meeting between Canisius and St. Bonaventure at the Koessler Athletic Center. The Golden Griffins lead the series, 14-10, in games played in Buffalo, N.Y. 
• Graduate Student guard Vannessa Garrelts totaled five-or-more steals for the second time this season as she posted five steals against UAlbany on Nov. 30. The Spring Grove, Ill., native is the first player to have two plus games of five-or-more steals in a single season since Anna Sweeny during the 2019-20 season.
• Two Griffs are averaging double-digit scoring through seven games with a minimum of five games played. Guard Dani Haskell has been averaging 13.8 points with Vannessa Garrelts second on the team with an average of 11.1.
• Canisius is set to open MAAC play with home games against Rider and Marist Dec. 17 & 19. Tip-off times for both matchups is slated for 1 p.m. at the Koessler Athletic Center. Tickets are on sale now by calling the Canisius ticket office at (716) 888-TIXX, or online at GoGriffs.com.
