Collins, Fitzgerald Chosen as Canisius Student-Athletes of the Month for March

Canisius men's lacrosse senior midfielder Dylan Collins and women's lacrosse junior midfielder Maddie Fitzgerald have been named the Milk for Life Canisius Student-Athletes of the Month for March, the athletic department announced Thursday.

A four-year member of the men's lacrosse program, Collins has appeared in all 11 games for the Golden Griffins this season, registering two goals, 17 ground balls and six caused turnovers. He scored his second goal of the season in Canisius' matchup against league foe Mount St. Mary's on April 4. A product of Buffalo, Collins also established a career high with four ground balls in the Griffs road contest at Sacred Heart on March 21.

A biology major, Collins is a two-time MAAC All-Academic Team selection who has garnered Dean's List distinction on five occasions.

A native of Rochester, N.Y., Fitzgerald has appeared in all 14 games for Canisius this season, tallying 20 goals, four assists, 17 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers. She comes off a career year, finding the back of the net 41 times last season to lead the team in scoring and earning All-MAAC Second Team accolades. The 2024 MAAC Rookie of the Year, Fitzgerald has surpassed the 20-goal plateau in each of her three seasons and sits just one point away from her 100th career point.

A business economics major, Fitzgerald has earned Dean's List accolades in all five of her semesters at Canisius. She was also named to the MAAC Women's Lacrosse All-Academic Team in 2025.

The fall 2025 semester saw Canisius student-athletes post a cumulative grade point average of 3.50, the 10 straight semester with a departmental cumulative GPA of 3.40 or greater.

In addition, all 21 of the Golden Griffins' varsity intercollegiate athletic programs fashioned a team cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher, with 18 squads exceeding a 3.30 cumulative GPA.

The fall semester also featured a total of 69 student-athletes earn a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Those 69 student-athletes highlighted a group of 374 student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher, representing 85% of the University's total student-athlete population.
