Women's Lacrosse Announces 2023 Schedule

Highlighted by six home games and a rematch with ACC foe Pitt, Canisius women's lacrosse head coach Russell Allen announced the team's 2023 schedule on Wednesday. This season will be a milestone year for the program as it will be the 25th season of women's lacrosse at Canisius.

The silver season of Golden Griffins women's lacrosse begins with a five-game road swing spanning four states. The Griffs open the season against Detroit Mercy (Feb. 11) and Little Three rival St. Bonaventure (Feb. 15), before heading to the Sunshine State to face-off against Stetson (Feb. 19).

The Griffs conclude their season-opening road swing with games in the Quaker State against Pitt (Feb. 28) and Lafayette (March 4). Last season, Canisius defeated Pitt 12-10 at home on Feb. 27 in the first-ever game between the two teams.

The Griffs welcome Robert Morris (March 14) to the Demske Sports Complex for their home opener before wrapping up non-conference play against Youngstown State (March 19) in the second of three consecutive home games.

Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play for the Griffs kicks off at home against Manhattan (March 25) before heading up the road to face Battle of the Bridge rival Niagara (March 29). This is the second consecutive year and 12th overall that Canisius will open MAAC play against Manhattan since the Griffs entered the conference in 1999.

The Griffs begin the month of April on the road with tilts at Iona (April 1) and Siena (April 5). The Blue and Gold return home to face MAAC newcomer Mount St. Mary's (April 8) in the first ever game between the two sides before heading back on the road to take on Quinnipiac (April 15).

Canisius closes out the regular season with a pair of home games against Marist (April 19) and Fairfield (April 22).

The 2023 MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship will feature six teams and begins with first-round action on April 30. The semifinals are slated for May 5 and the championship is scheduled for May 7, with the winner of the title game receiving the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. Each game during the tournament will be hosted by the higher seed of the matchup.
