• The men's basketball team closes out its four-game homestand to begin the 2022-23 campaign with a pair of contests at the Koessler Athletic Center this week. The Griffs square off against Cleveland State on Wednesday before facing Fredonia on Friday night. Both games will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now by calling the Canisius ticket office at (716) 888-TIXX, or online at GoGriffs.com.
• The Blue and Gold evened their record at 1-1 on the young season with an 84-80 overtime win over Little Three rival St. Bonaventure on Saturday at the KAC. Sophomore Xzavier Long and graduate student Jordan Henderson paced the Griffs with 19 points apiece with Henderson chipping in six assists.
• After averaging 15.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game in his first two collegiate games, redshirt-freshman Tahj Staveskie was named the Hercules Tire MAAC Rookie of the Week on Monday. Staveskie opened his college career with 19 points and three boards against Youngstown State before scoring 11 points against the Bonnies with nine coming in overtime.
• Canisius has made 11 3-point field goals in both games this season. The 11 threes in the season-opener were the most in a season-opening game in program history. Graduate transfer Jamir Moultrie leads the team with seven makes.
• The Griffs hit the road for the first time in the campaign next week when they travel to Ithaca, N.Y. to face regional foe Cornell on Nov. 22. Tip-off from Newman Arena is slated for 5 p.m. The contest will be available on broadcast via ESPN+ and audio via GoGriffs.com.
 
Swimming and Diving
 
Nov. 17-19: at Magnus Invite | All Day
 
• The Canisius men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to the pool for the Magnus Invite, which is hosted by Cleveland State. The three-day meet will begin on Thursday in Ohio.
• The Griffs are back in action after suffering a pair of setbacks in their first road meet of the year against regional foe Geneseo on Oct. 29.
• Despite the losses, freshman Lana Janson and sophomore Archie Minto combined for five first-place finishes.
• In the three meets so far this season, the Blue and Gold have picked up five total weekly conference awards, backed by a pair for graduate diver Adriana Bolender.
• Canisius will wrap up the 2022 calendar year with a meet against Little Three rival St. Bonaventure on Dec. 3. Diving will begin at 10 a.m. while the swimming portion of the meet will start at noon at the Reilly Center Pool in Olean, N.Y.

• The volleyball team heads to the 2022 MAAC Volleyball Championship at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The Griffs will face Siena in the quarterfinal round on Thursday with opening serve set for 1:30 p.m. and the match streaming on ESPN3/+. The tournament's semifinal round is slated for Friday with matches at noon and 2:30 p.m. while the championship match will take place on Saturday at 1 p.m. The winner of the championship receives the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
• Freshman setter Ella Bourque totaled 26 assists in the regular-season finale against Marist to bring her assist total to 1,001 for the season. She is just the ninth player ever and first freshman in program history to have amassed 1,000 or more assists in a season.
• The last time Siena and Canisius met in the postseason was during the 2012 season, when the tournament was held in Fairfield, Conn. The Saints won that matchup by a 3-1 margin.
• The last time the Griffs were in Disney for the MAAC Championships was during the 2018 season. The Blue and Gold defeated Rider, 3-1, in the quarterfinal round before falling to Iona, 3-1, in the semifinal round.
• Senior outside hitter Ella Loussia finished the regular season with 66 service aces, ranking her third in the country in that category. Only Mia Wesley of Southern Miss. and Andrea Tsvetanova of Coppin State have more service aces than Loussia this season.

• The women's basketball team is back in action Saturday when it returns home to take on Binghamton. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at the Koessler Athletic Center. Tickets are on sale now by calling the Canisius ticket office at (716) 888-TIXX, or online at GoGriffs.com.
• Senior guard Jane McCauley leads the Griffs in both 3-pointers made and 3-point percentage with a minimum of ten shots taken. She has made seven shots from beyond the arc and has connected on 50.0% of her attempts from downtown (7-of-14) through three games.
• Against Detroit Mercy on Nov. 13, junior guard Dani Haskell played all 40 minutes, becoming the first Canisius player to play all 40 minutes in a game since D'Jhai Patterson-Ricks did so against Quinnipiac on March 7, 2020.
• Graduate student guard Vannessa Garrelts totaled five steals against the Titans, becoming the first Canisius player to have five or more steals in a game since Cheyenne Stubbs recorded eight against Quinnipiac on Jan. 27, 2022.
• The Griffs are back in action with a pair of road games next week. Canisius travels to Colgate on Nov. 22 for a 7 p.m. contest at Cotterill Court before heading to Robert Morris Nov. 26 for 1 p.m. matchup at the UPMC Events Center.
