Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Fairfield Takes Down Men’s Soccer, 2-0

The host Fairfield Stags scored in the game's 67th minute and then added an insurance marker in the contest's final 22 seconds to post a 2-0 win over Canisius in MAAC men's soccer action Saturday afternoon in Fairfield, Conn.

The victory moves the Stags to 7-7-0 overall and 3-3-0 in MAAC play, while the Golden Griffins slipped to 1-6-6 overall and 0-3-3 in league play with the loss.

Fairfield took the 1-0 lead in the 67th minute after Canisius goalkeeper William Howard made the initial stop on a penalty kick taken by Cormac Pike, but Alex Marin was able to settle the rebound and put the ball behind Howard for his first goal of the season. In the closing seconds of the match, the Stags stretched their lead to 2-0 after Raz Amir tallied his team-leading fifth goal of the season, unassisted.

Howard made eight stops in net for Canisius, while Fairfield's James Anderson recorded four saves in the victory. Fairfield out-shot Canisius 18-9 for the game, with 10 of those shots being on frame, and the Stags were also credited with nine corner kick opportunities against the Griffs' three.
