Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late Rally Falls Short for Men’s Soccer Wednesday

Despite scoring a pair of goals in the final 28 minutes of the match, Canisius fell to Marist, 4-2, Wednesday afternoon in collegiate men's soccer action at the Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field.

With the loss, the Golden Griffins sliped to 1-7-6 (0-4-3 MAAC) on the season while the Red Foxes improved their record to 6-6-1 (2-4-0 MAAC).


Marist opened the scoring at the 4:42 mark in the first half when Andre Cutler-DeJesus put one past graduate keeper
William Howard.

The host Red Foxes doubled their lead eight minutes later thanks to Jared Juleau.


Marist closed out the first half with a goal from Henrique Cruz in the 36th minute before tallying its final goal of the match in the 51st minute on a Jacob Schulman penalty kick conversion.


Canisius was able to break its deadlock when sophomore
Kodie Sarkodie headed in his first of the season in the 62nd minute off a corner kick from sophomore Dylan Rice.

The got their second goal of the match when freshman
Joseph Roper scored his first collegiate goal on a feed from junior Andrew Vannest in the 89th minute.

Game Notes

• Howard made 4 stops in the loss.
• Vannest picked up his second career assist on Roper's goal.
• Roper becomes the third freshman to net his first collegiate tally this season.

Up Next

• Canisius returns to Western New York for the final home game of the regular season on Saturday. The Griffs will square off against Manhattan from the Demske Sports Complex at 1 p.m. with the match set to be aired on ESPN3. Prior to the contest, members of the senior class will be honored in a ceremony.
