Jones, Oliphant Garner MAAC Weekly Honors

Canisius junior keeper Jessica Jones and sophomore midfielder Emma Oliphant were both recognized as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced its Bob McClusky Insurance Women's Soccer Weekly Awards on Monday.

Jones was named the league's defensive player of the week while Oliphant took home offensive player of the week honors after the duo helped guide Canisius to a 1-0-1 record last week against Siena and Saint Peter's.

Jones did not allow a goal in either game, as she extended her current shutout streak to 350 minutes. The Morgantown, W. Va., native made four saves in a 0-0 draw at Siena before posting three stops in the Griffs' 3-0 victory against Saint Peter's.

In six games this season, Jones has fashioned a 0.36 goals against average and recorded three shutouts. She has allowed just two goals in 495 minutes of action.

Oliphant was honored after tallying the first two goals of her career and adding an assist in Canisius' 3-0 victory over Saint Peter's Saturday afternoon. The Burlington, Ontario, native netted the game-winning goal in the 26th minute before assisting on junior Tiani Fonoti's insurance maker in the 48th minute. Oliphant capped her day with the Griffs' final goal on an unassisted effort in the 59th minute.

Having appeared in all 13 games this season, Oliphant ranks second on the squad in scoring with seven points (2g, 3a). She is also second on the squad in both shot attempts (34) and shots on goal (19).

Canisius (4-3-6, 2-1-3 MAAC) returns to action Wednesday with a matchup against Iona. Opening kickoff for the contest between the Griffs and Gaels is set for noon at Mazzella Field in New Rochelle, N.Y.
