FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

1. Setting the Pitch
The Canisius men's soccer team heads on the road for the first time since Sept. 15, as the Griffs take on Iona from Mazzella Field in New Rochelle, N.Y. Kickoff for Saturday's contest is slated for 2 p.m.

2. Last Time Out
Kyle Galloway factored in all three of Marist's goals, aiding the Red Foxes to a 3-1 victory over Canisius in the first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contest for both squads on Wednesday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex in downtown Buffalo.

Galloway assisted on Marist's first two goals, kickstarted by a Stefan Copetti tally in the 16th minute and Huib Achterkamp's 33rd-minute goal. He then opened the second half with a goal of his own, scoring just 14 seconds into the frame.

Lachlan Beever netted his first tally of the season, scoring in the 81st minute. Matt Spangler's cross was touched by Andrew Vannest, who allowed Beever to spin away from a Marist defender, depositing his right-footed strike into the bottom right corner of the goal.

Beever concluded the day with four shot attempts, with two of them on target.

William Howard, making his sixth straight start in net for the Griffs, made three saves.

3. Series History
Saturday marks the 34th all-time meeting between the Griffs and Gaels. Iona leads the all-time series, 21-8-4, and has a 9-3-2 advantage in games taking place in New Rochelle.

The last victory for Canisius over Iona came back in 2017, when Canisius won a MAAC Quarterfinal contest at home, 1-0.

Iona has not lost to the Griffs on home turf since 2014, when the Blue and Gold shut out the Gaels, 2-0.

4. First Assists
Sophomore Andrew Vannest and senior Matt Spangler recorded their first assists with Canisius on Lachlan Beever's goal in Wednesday's loss to Marist.

Vannest's assist was the first collegiate point for the Churchville, N.Y., native.

Spangler's helper was his first with the Griffs and his first since 2018 when he played at Findlay, an Ohio-based Division III school.

5. Finally on the Road…
Canisius concluded its three-game homestand Wednesday, which was the program's longest streak of regular season home games since hosting Buffalo (Aug. 28), Incarnate Word (Sept. 2) and Stony Brook (Sept. 4) in 2016.

The 17-day break between the Griffs' last road contest (Sept. 15 at Duquesne) and Saturday's match against Iona is the longest break between road fixtures in a single season since 2014. The program went 21 days between road games in 2014 (Aug. 31 vs. UC Davis in Columbus, Ohio, and Sept. 21 at Robert Morris).
