Brace Adds Former Griff Engelbach-Schafer to Coaching Staff

Canisius rowing head coach Kerri Brace announced Monday that former Canisius rower Amanda Engelbach-Schafer (Kielich) '14 has been hired as the program's newest assistant coach.

Engelbach-Schafer joins Brace and fellow assistant coach Matt Cosmann on the coaching staff.

"I'm really excited to have Amanda join our coaching staff," Brace said. "She is a proud alum who brings an incredible sense of passion for Canisius rowing, its history, and the future of the program. Her enthusiasm is contagious and I know she will make a lasting impact on the team, this time from the coach boat instead of the race lineup."

A four-year letterwinner from 2011-14, Engelbach-Schafer was a member of three first-place finishes, two of which came at the Black Rock Cup in 2012 (varsity eight) and 2013 (second varsity eight). Overall, Engelbach-Schafer accrued 10 top-three finishes during her rowing career with the Griffs.

"I'm so excited to be rejoining the Canisius rowing community and giving back to the program that was so monumental to my college experience," Engelbach-Schafer said. "I look forward to a fun and fast year with the next generation!"

Engelbach-Schafer graduated from Canisius in 2014 after double majoring in French language and culture and in European studies. She also earned her paralegal certification from Canisius in October 2014.

After spending six months as a legal assistant, Engelbach-Schager served as a paralegal at two law firms for just over six years. She has since left the law industry and is currently a dental assistant at the Aesthetic Associates Centre.
