Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Falls to Nationally-Ranked Bowling Green

Alberto Anaya assisted on each of Bowling Green's goals, aiding the nationally-ranked Falcons to a 2-1 victory over Canisius at a blustery Demske Sports Complex on Friday afternoon.

Anaya assisted on the No. 17 ranked Falcons' (7-1-1) first goal in the seventh minute from Joey Akpunonu, whose 25-foot strike slid past Canisius goalkeeper William Howard.

Kyle Cusimano extended Bowling Green's lead in the 28th minute as Zach Buescher received a feed from Anaya before setting up Cusimano for the visitor's second tally of the half.

Kodie Sarkodie, who was making his collegiate debut, had an opportunity to cut the Falcons lead in half in the 34th minute with a header off a Dylan Rice corner kick. Sarkodie's header sailed just above the crossbar, robbing the freshman of his first career goal.

After the halftime break, Canisius peppered Bowling Green with shots in the second half, mustering 13 attempts into 15-to-20-mph winds.

The Griffs had six shot attempts in the first 10 minutes of the second half, with Alessandro Fabiano and Lachlan Beever having two tries each in that span.

One of the Griffs' four shots on target in the second half came from Noah Hodson, who registered his second goal of the season. Hodson lofted a pass from Federico Mereto into the top-right corner of the net as Mereto fended off Bowling Green defenders inside the penalty area.

Mereto's assist was his first point on the campaign, while Hodson joins Alessio Atzori as the only two players with multiple goals.

Canisius had three shot attempts in the final 10 minutes, trying to send the game to overtime, but they were either blocked by Bowling Green defenders or were off target.

Ryan Dagelman and Matt Spangler had the remaining two shots on target for Canisius in the game.

Howard made four saves in goal for Canisius.

Head Coach Dermot McGrane's Postgame Comments
"I was very pleased with the way we played today, especially in the second half. Bowling Green is a very good team and there is a reason that they are ranked as high as they are, but we managed to disrupt their rhythm of play and caused them some real problems."
