Marist Defeats Griffs in MAAC Men’s Soccer Opener

Kyle Galloway factored in all three of Marist's goals, aiding the Red Foxes to a 3-1 victory over Canisius in the first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contest for both squads on Wednesday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex in downtown Buffalo.

Galloway assisted on Marist's first two goals, kickstarted by a Stefan Copetti tally in the 16th minute and Huib Achterkamp's 33rd-minute goal. He then opened the second half with a goal of his own, scoring just 14 seconds into the frame.

Lachlan Beever netted his first tally of the season, scoring in the 81st minute. Matt Spangler's cross was touched by Andrew Vannest, who allowed Beever to spin away from a Marist defender, depositing his right-footed strike into the bottom right corner of the goal.

Beever concluded the day with four shot attempts, with two of them on target.

William Howard, making his sixth straight start in net for the Griffs, made three saves.

Head Coach Dermot McGrane's Postgame Comments

"We let ourself down today. We are capable of playing at a much better level and there is no excuse for the performance we just put in. We need to get to work in practice over the next two days to get ready for a good Iona team this weekend."
