Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Upended by Binghamton

Ethan Homler factored in both of Binghamton's late first half tallies as the Bearcats defeated Canisius, 3-1, in non-conference men's soccer action at the Demske Sports Complex on Saturday night.

Noah Luescher opened the scoring for Binghamton in the 40th minute, receiving a pass from Homler on the right side and weaving his way towards the middle of the pitch before beating Canisius goalkeeper William Howard with a shot just inside the right post from 20 yards out.

Homler potted the Bearcats' second goal of the half on a penalty kick after Riley Wagner was booked with a red card before a Binghamton corner kick in the 42nd minute. Howard read the shot well enough, diving to his right and getting both hands on the ball before it deflected into the top-left corner of the goal.

In the second half, while playing with just 10 men due to the red card, Noah Hodson was upended inside the 18-yard box leading to a Canisius penalty kick in the 59th minute.

Alessio Atzori took the penalty for the Griffs and was able to get his shot past Binghamton goalkeeper P.J. Parker, cutting the Bearcats lead to 2-1.

Following a Binghamton yellow card in the 70th minute, Reilly Boyer tried setting up Luke Szablewski on a set piece, but Parker stopped Szablewski's header.

Eight minutes later, Alessandro Fabiano attempted to tie the game up on a free kick, but Parker was able to stop the shot.

Binghamton's Rory Anderson added an insurance marker with 32 seconds left to close out the scoring. Carter Beaulieu received a pass from a corner kick, dribbled along the end-line before passing to Anderson, who deposited the Bearcats' third goal of the night just inside the far post.

Head Coach Dermot McGrane's Postgame Comments
"I was pleased with the way we played for the first 40 minutes of the first half. I thought we were doing well towards the end of the first half."

"It's tough to win when you're down two goals and you've got one less player, but I'm proud of the way the guys worked in the second half. We got a goal back, battled hard, and it didn't look like we were playing with 10 men. We talked in the locker room about winning the half, we gave up a goal with 25 seconds left and up to that point, I thought we were winning the half."

GAME NOTES
• Saturday marked just the fifth time Canisius has played Binghamton, with all matches coming since 2004.
• Binghamton still holds onto the all-time series lead, now having won four contests.
