Rowing Competes in First Events of Season

The Canisius rowing team competed in its first event of the 2021 season, hosting Mercyhurst and Ithaca at the Black Rock Canal on Saturday afternoon.

Canisius opened the tri-meet with their first varsity eight, going up against Mercyhurst and Ithaca's teams. The Griffs finished third with a time of 7:25.1, while Ithaca placed first at 7:03.7 and Mercyhurst slightly behind with a time of 7:05.5.

The second varsity eight placed second with a time of 8:13.6, as Ithaca took first place with a time of 7:28.4.

Following a break from racing, both varsity eight boats returned to the water, where the first varsity boat would finish third with a time of 7:38.5. Mercyhurst and Ithaca would swap positions in the top-two, as Mercyhurst placed ahead of Ithaca with a time of 7:03.2.

The second varsity boat lost to Ithaca in their race, as the Bombers finished over a minute ahead of the Griffs.

"Big thanks to Mercyhurst and Ithaca for making the trip out to help us finally get to race day. I'm excited we had the opportunity to get out and race today after so long."

I'm proud of how the team has handled the challenges we continue to face due to COVID protocols and I look forward to watching them grow each opportunity we get to train and race. Our upperclassmen leadership continues to help push us in the right direction."

Up Next
Canisius will return to the water on April 18 when the Griffs will host Colgate at the Black Rock Canal. The start time for the race is currently scheduled for 10 a.m.
