Five Things to Know

1)  Griffs Entertain Titans in Good Friday Matinee
The Canisius men's lacrosse team squares off against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe Detroit Mercy in a Good Friday matchup at the Demske Sports Complex in downtown Buffalo. Opening faceoff between the Golden Griffins and Titans is set for 3 p.m.

2)  Canisius Versus Detroit Mercy
Canisius and Detroit Mercy have split their 12 previous matchups, with the Griffs having won four of the last five meetings between the two Jesuit institutions. The Titans lone win in that stretch, however, came in a 12-10 triumph at the Demske Sports Complex back on April 7, 2018.  Canisius is just 2-3 against UDM at the Demske Sports Complex. The Griffs last victory over the Titans on home turf came in a 9-5 victory on April 23, 2016.

3)  Showdown at the Faceoff X
It will be a battle between two of the better faceoff specialists in the MAAC on Friday as Sophomore Connor Beals ranks fourth in the league with a .636 winning percentage (42-of-66). Beals has won more than 50 percent of his draws in all three games played this season, highlighted by a 15-of-21 (.714) performance versus Manhattan at the Demske Sports Complex on March 13. On the other side of the X, Detroit's Alex Jarzembowski is third in the league with a .674 success rate in draws (62-of-92). Jarzembowski has won more than 70 percent of his faceoffs in each of the Titans' last three contests, including a 17-of-22 (.772) success rate in an 11-9 victory over Siena on March 27.

4)  Schermerhorn Shines in Debut versus Saints
Freshman attackman Andrew Schermerhorn had a solid start to his collegiate career in Canisius' matchup with Siena on March 20 as the Appleton, Wis., product made his first career start and responded by tallying two goals and two assists in the Griffs 12-10 victory over the Saints.

5)  Jesuit Pride
Canisius and Detroit Mercy are two of just eight Jesuit schools playing Division I lacrosse. The others are Fairfield, Georgetown, Holy Cross, Loyola (Md.), Marquette and St. Joseph's. Canisius holds a combined 10-24 record against Detroit Mercy (6-6), Fairfield (0-4), Georgetown (0-4), Loyola (Md.) (0-1) and Saint Joseph's (4-9). The Griffs have not yet faced Holy Cross or Marquette.
